Foundation Portfolio- Preliminary Task

Producing a college/school magazine.

As this is the beginning of the Foundation Portfolio task. I looked at how the media key concepts could be applied to produce a college magazine. I used the acronym LIIAR- language, in sitution, ideology, audience and representation.

L-language

Layout of the magazine, font of the text used, the text itself, the photograph which will be on the front of the magazine, the process of the photograph (from a black and white picture to a colour picture), is the photograph digitally airbrushed, the size of the masthead, what the masthead reads and the font it is in, the colour of the layout and text, the size of the text, the colour of the text, what colour of text is used for each area of the magazine.

I-insitution

Wyke College produces the magazine, most of the students who attend Wyke college are female, most of the students who attend Wyke college come from The East Riding area and not the Hull area, Wyke is one of the college's in Hull which acheieves the best results, Wyke used to be a sixth form college but is now a more achedmic college, the students who attend Wyke all come from Hull and surrounding area's.

I-ideology

The message Wyke college magazine is giving out, all staff and students at Wyke college repect each other, there is equal opportunties for all studnets who attend Wyke, there is also diversity for all students who attend Wyke.

A-audience

Students who attend Wyke, the staff who work at Wyke, students who are in the age group of 16-19, 64% of students who attend Wyke are female and 36% are male, students come from Hull and surrounding area's but most are from the surrounding area's, students from secondary schools moving up to college may look at the magazine to get a idea of what the college is like, students from Wyke are mostly middle class, all employee's of the college, parents (if the magazine is given out at Parents Evening)

R-representation

The magazine is representing Wyke college, the photograph's I take will be showing activities at Wyke, the lead story and also the pluglines on the magazine will show what activites are at Wyke, the stories and photographs will represent the college, the type of font I use will represent the story I write (for example if I need to show an important point I will use bold to make the text stand out better), the choice of photograph I use will show students representing the college.
